BACKGROUND INFORMATION
CBEC - A consortium of key education business link agencies.
Background
With the emergence of the Learning and Skills Councils, key priorities for the delivery of Education Business Link activities were identified which required a co-ordinated approach locally and nationally through 'Consortium' arrangements - agencies working together to maximise opportunities benefiting all schools and impacting on the lives of young people. As a result CBEC - Cumbria Business Education Consortium Limited was established in April 2001 as a not-for-profit limited company.
CBEC employs around 20 staff (full time & part time) to work across Cumbria to deliver education business link activity to support schools meet their individual objectives. Key areas of work are:
School Partnership Agreements - to identify school needs Schools in Business - business link activity & the world of work Work Experience - supporting work placements Professional Development - supporting teachers professional/personal development
CBEC - the Consortium, is managed by a Board of Directors who represent key education business link agencies locally and Nationally. They are the Consortium partners and by working closely together they ensure that funds and activity are maximised across the County to support and engage ALL schools.
The Consortium Partners CBEC Consortium is represented by: BAE Systems, Cumbria Primary Heads' Association, Eden EBP, Finance, Secondary Schools, LEA 14-19, and Business Representatives.
The Consortium Aims The key is to identify school needs in terms of DfEs priorities:
- Raising standards of achievement

- Improving learner motivation and attendance

- Preparing young people for the world of work including employability

- Enhancing the delivery of the National Curriculum and achievement of National Qualifications framework

- Supporting governance, management & leadership in schools
|
- Delivery of key skills & wider key skills such as creativity & enterprise

The Consortium Mission The mission of CBEC is to develop effective lifelong learners in the Cumbria region by co-ordinating and enhancing the learning and development efforts of the education and business communities to provide quality learning opportunities and outcomes for all the young people of Cumbria.
